Monsanto, BASFenter pact for new fungicide seed treatment in soy


Monsanto Co. and BASF SE announced Monday (June 24, 2008) of their exclusive agreement for a new fungicide seed treatment for soy in the US.


The new product contains BASF's fungicide F 500 and the treatment, which is expected to be commercialized with the launch of Monsanto's Roundup Ready 2 Yield soy seed offering, will provide soy farmers with early-season disease protection.


Under the agreement, Monsanto will have exclusive rights to commercialize the new fungicide seed treatment.


Monsanto is a multinational agricultural biotechnology corporation. It is the world's leading producer of the herbicide glyphosate, marketed as Roundup. The company is also by far the leading producer of genetically modified seed, holding 70 - 100 percent market share for various crops.


BASF is a German chemical company and the largest chemical company in the world with 160 subsidiaries and joint ventures and operates more than 150 production sites across the globe.
