On December 22-28, CNPC Vice President Wang Dongjin and OAO Gazprom Deputy Chairman Alexander Medvedev had the final round talks on natural gas negotiation in 2009. The two parties signed a basic agreement on major terms and conditions for natural gas supplies from Russia to China.

The agreement defines the basic commercial and technical terms of Russian gas supply to China. The parties also agreed on furthering active cooperation in 2010 to come to understanding on other terms and conditions that would subsequently lay the foundation for entering into contracts on gas supply from Russia to China.
