Han Changfu Meets with Thai Deputy Prime Minister Jurin Laksanavisit

Han Changfu, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, recently met with Thai Deputy Prime Minister Jurin Laksanavisit at the Lower House of Parliament during his visit to Thailand.  

  

Han said the two countries have a sound mechanism for agricultural cooperation. The two sides have successively convened the Joint Working Group Meeting on Agricultural Cooperation for 11 times; and agricultural economic and trade cooperation also maintained sound momentum for development. Han said the main purpose of his visit this time was to promote pragmatic cooperation on agriculture between the two sides. Han briefed Jurin on the development of Chinas agriculture and rural areas, saying that President Xi Jinping has attached great importance to the development of agriculture and rural areas. Han said China has made tremendous achievements on agriculture and rural areas under the leadership of the Communist Party of China. It has successfully addressed the issue of feeding nearly 1.4 billion people and basically eliminated absolute poverty; and it has been implementing the strategy for the revitalization of the countryside. He said China has accumulated rich experience in developing agriculture and rural areas, and was willing to share its experience and practices for development with other countries, including Thailand. 

  

Jurin expressed his gratitude for Han's introduction and his admiration for the achievements China has made in the areas of developing agriculture and rural areas, ensuring food security and eliminating poverty that have attracted worldwide attention. He said China's experience has reference function especially for Thailand. 

  

During his visit to Thailand, Han also visited staff at the Thailand Headquarter of Guangdong Guangken Rubber Group and inspected the Guangken Rubber (Mekong River) Co., Ltd in Udon Thani. He held discussions with the management personnel of the production bases, and encouraged the companies to broaden their visions in order to increase competitiveness, and continuously manage their overseas industries well. He also visited local rubber plantations and farmer’s house and held discussions with them. In Chiang Mai, Han visited Thai rice research center, rice cooperatives and Longan Cooperatives and learnt about agricultural production there. He also called on CP Group upon invitation.
