Vice Minister Yu Kangzhen attends 13th Meeting of China-Australia Joint Agricultural Committee

Vice Minister Yu Kangzhen met with Hon. Barnaby Joyce, Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Secretary of the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources, in Canberra on 12 September, 2017. Yu also co-chaired the 13th Meeting of China-Australia Joint Agricultural Committee with Mr. Luke Hartsuyker, Assistant Minister to the Deputy Prime Minister, and attended the ChinaAustraliaState-Province Agricultural Business Forum on the same day.

Yu noted that over recent years, China and Australia have conducted broad exchanges and cooperation in livestock production, fisheries and other sectors and achieved desirable results. 

In order to deepen China-Australia agricultural cooperation, Yu put forward a five-point proposal:

first, continue to carry out the ction Implementing Agricultural Ministry of Agriculture of China and the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources;

second, strengthen China-Australia livestock communication and cooperation with focuses on dairy technologies, beef and mutton quality & safety control, grassland production management, personnel training and S&T research;

third, discuss the signing of the China-Australia intergovernmental Agreement on Cooperation in the Animal Health and Quarantine and establish a dialogdirect communication mechanism between veterinary authorities of the two sides;

fourth, discuss China-Australia MOU on Fisheries Cooperation and enhance fisheries communication and cooperation;

fifth,promote the state-province communication and boost two-way agricultural investment and trade.

The Australian side fully agreed the proposal and expressed its readiness to intensify the partnership with China in fisheries sustainable agricultural development.
