Minister Han Changfu met with Algerian Prime Minister Mr. Abdelmalek Sellal at the chancellery during his visit to Algeria on the afternoon of 23 April 2017. The two sides exchanged views on strengthening bilateral agricultural cooperation. Mr. Yang Guangyu, Chinese Ambassador to Algeria, attended the meeting.

Minister Han conveyed Premier Li Keqiang’s cordial greetings to Mr. Sellal and recalled that the two heads of government reached important consensuses and made agricultural cooperation one of the top priorities during their talks in April 2015. Minister Han’s current visit to Algeria aims to implement the consensuses and push forward pragmatic agricultural cooperation.

Minister Han emphasized that China and Algeria enjoy traditional friendship and have established comprehensive strategic partnership. China highly values cooperation with the Algerian side.

Agriculture is the basis of economic stability. The two countries are highly complementary in agricultural area and have great potential and broad prospects for cooperation. China is willing to share with Algeria the knowledge and experience in China’s competitive areas such as agricultural infrastructure construction, science and technology application, farm machinery and equipments, and agricultural production services.

Mr. Sellal welcomed Minister Han and appreciated his visit to Algeria. He said that Algeria is implementing the economic diversification strategy. The country puts agricultural development high on agenda and is eager to strengthen cooperation with China.

On the morning of 23 April, Minister Han and Mr. Chelgham Abdesslam, Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries of Algeria, held talks and signed the MoU on agricultural and fisheries cooperation on behalf of the two governments.
