China bans direct sales of animal feed imports

Foreign companies and individuals will be forbidden to directly sell imported animal feed and feed additives in China.

The draft of a revised regulation on the administration of animal feed and feed additives, jointly made by the Legislative Affairs Office of the State Council and the Ministry of Agriculture, is now open to public comment until March 15.

Under the draft, foreign companies and individuals should establish sales subsidiaries in China or entrust a Chinese agency to sell animal feed or feed additives in the country. Imported animal feed or feed additives to be sold in China should be wrapped and have eligible Chinese marks, which will be subject to inspections and quarantines of Chinese entry-exit inspection and quarantine bureaus.

First-time exporters of animal feed or feed additives to China should file an application with agriculture authorities under the State Council for registration.

The new regulation would also require animal feed and feed additive producers to renew their licences every five years and set up quality control facilities. Producers and sales companies must set up their records for tracing and are not allowed to add any banned drugs.
