High-yield oil and gas flow was obtained on February 26 from well HEB A-1, CNPC's first exploration and appraisal well in Block 438B in Algeria, which produces 700 cubic meters of light crude oil and 220,000 cubic meters of natural gas per day.

CNPC has accelerated the exploration and development of Block 438B since April 2005. Well HEBA-1, its first exploration and appraisal well allocated in the HEB 3D area, was spudded on February 15 2006 with Triassic and Ordovician as the target zone and completed at the depth of 4,200 meters. Abnormal gas logging and oil and gas shows were observed on February 24 2007 before high-yield oil and gas flow was obtained on February 27.
